Lesson 2: Photoshop & Album Covers

Photoshop Image Manipulation Randomized Search: Album Covers

ASSIGNMENT: SEVERAL YEARS AGO, THERE WAS A ALBUM COVER ARTWORK GENERATION PHENOMENA ON FACEBOOK.

To Do This:

1. Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random” or —
click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

  1. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
  2. Go to Quotations Page and select “random quotations” or —

click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3

4. The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

5. Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or — click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days

  1. Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
  2. Use Photoshop to put it all together, including the typography.
  3. Repeat this process three (3) times to generate three different album concepts
  4. Your third design MUST double the square format, creating a rectangle mimicking the

horizontal dimensions of a CD package with two panels. Optional: use a similar process of the quotations (no. 03) to gather potential song titles; minimum of five (5)

10. The second time you MUST compose two images into your cover design; the third, you must find three images to collage into your album concept. This is a total of six (6) images.

11. You also must look through, and search three resources for free typeface. Use each of the found typeface in each of your album cover designs.
