Project 2: Image Collage

Project Two-Photoshop Composition

Surrealism: Image Collage

Process:

Begin by listing possible concepts for your series. Once a single concept is chosen, sketch out the series, working from simple roughs to more detailed sketches to better flesh out concepts and make the transition to working on the computer that much easier.

As a conept is decided on, you can begin to collect images for the series. These images must come from either your own photographs or from free stock photography sites like:

  1. http://www.imageafter.com
  2. http://www.mayang.com/textures

No acquiring images from the Google image search. Finding high-resolution images from it is difficult at best, and fiding an image that won’t infringe copyright is even more difficult.

However, there are places online (like the two listed above) where there are images available for use, perfect for academic projects like these.

Once concept, sketching, and images are collected and complete, move to Photoshop to composite the various images using the program’s manipulation tools.

  1. Needs to transition (blend) smoothly from one object to another at least three (3) times
  2. Needs to look photographically realistic and 3-D (think of light & shadows)
  3. No pixelated or blurry images
  4. White background

SAMPLE: Create a creature that is part animal, human, and mechanical. Use Photoshop and its tools to create the artwork.

Create one component, blending three concepts from each of the following categories:

  • Animal
  • Human
  • Mechanical
  • Plant Life
  • Food
  • Object
